The concept of this project is to create a year-long civic engagement program called Fair Play DC that uses Howard University student-athletes as leaders and role models to inspire local youth through the unifying power of sports. Rooted in Washington, D.C., the program leverages Howard’s unique position in the nation’s capital to connect sports, civic dialogue, and leadership development in a meaningful way. During the winter and spring months, the project will involve partnerships with local schools and community organizations, where student-athletes will engage youth through a combination of sports-based activities and guided conversations focused on fairness, leadership, and resilience. By the end of the program, Fair Play DC aims to reach youth across multiple schools, train student-athletes in civic leadership, and lay the groundwork for a sustainable, SAAC-led initiative that extends beyond a single year.
