ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Beyond the Baseline is a leadership and service program for Murrah basketball players that connects them to Mississippi’s Civil Rights legacy while helping them grow beyond the game. Through mentorship and hands-on service, players build a strong sense of leadership, responsibility, and gratitude. The program strengthens school culture and empowers student-athletes to positively impact Jackson on and off the court.

AVAUGHN'S WHY

I am participating in the fellowship to strengthen my leadership and show athletes that their influence extends beyond the court. As a Jackson native, I want to invest in our youth through service and civic engagement aligned with my nonprofit YLM’s mission. Being an Engaged Athlete Fellow means using my platform with purpose to build leadership, responsibility, and hope in Jackson.
