My project addresses the impacts of the Bay Area’s affordable housing crisis by supporting youth in communities harmed by redlining, gentrification, and racially oppressive housing policies. I designed this project to combine education and action. Most importantly the project begins with education student-athletes on the historical and structural roots of housing inequality, then turning actionably by mobilizing them to engage directly with schools and juvenile centers in affected neighborhoods. This project has been heavily influenced by Moms4Housing and through monthly visits and partnerships, I hope to leverage student-athletes’ leadership and lived experience to create meaningful, long-term impact while deepening their understanding of why this work matters.
