I am organizing a Columbia Athletics Food Drive Competition to combat food insecurity in New York City by bringing together student-athletes in a shared act of service. From November 3 to December 21, athletic teams will compete to collect non-perishable food items, which will be distributed through a partnership with Columbia Community Impact, with student-athletes also volunteering during Thanksgiving week. This initiative is designed to promote leadership, teamwork, and community engagement beyond the playing field while establishing a lasting tradition of service within Columbia Athletics. Inspired by my upbringing in Nigeria, where food symbolizes unity, care, and shared responsibility, this project connects my cultural values to meaningful service at Columbia. Through this effort, we aim to support families in need and help ensure they can experience a warm, dignified holiday season.
